What to Do When You Can’t Afford to Prioritize Expensive Travel

beach-travel-cliff It’s spring break week here and schools are out. Normally I’d be in some tropical locale enjoying the beaches and good weather.

Instead, I am here at home! Due to the financial requirements of some life plans I have this year, those plans are out of the picture for now.

So what am I doing instead?

I am taking any chance I can to turn regular weekends into getaways!

For example, last weekend my son had a 2 day tournament about an hour from my home.

Instead of coming back home, I used the opportunity to visit my friends in the town. At night, I checked into a lovely boutique hotel with a roof deck and a lovely river running beside it.

(If you’re ever in town, make sure to check out Hotel Zero Degrees Norwalk! It is clean and gorgeous. The beds aren’t the most comfortable ever, but the beautiful rooms, bathrooms and delicious hot breakfast make up for that.)

He plays in another 2 day tournament a few weeks from now, and I plan on doing the same thing. I will check out a local boutique hotel and get the feeling of vacationing, if only for the weekend.

Recently I spent a lovely night at the RIU Plaza Hotel in Times Square New York, another quick getaway to infuse my life with a little travel.

If you are unable to afford big trips at any point in your life, you can still enjoy affordable little getaways. You don’t have to stay home completely until you can prioritize travel again.

Take any little opportunity you have to get away locally. Any change from the regular, mundane realities of life can infuse you with more energy and optimism to carry on!

I am still looking forward to my next international vacation, but until then I will make the most of what life has to offer near me!

What about you? How do you add a little travel to your life when you have to prioritize other things?
