regain-your-focusGetting  back on track after losing your focus can be a daunting task. Sometimes you get so far away you don’t know where to begin. It is so easy to get side tracked but much more difficult to get back on task.

If you are like me, focus comes in fits and starts. Sometimes you are laser focused, other times it’s like you are on the lazy river of life, just floating away.

That is how I feel right now, having just returned from  a Caribbean cruise and still on a food high from Thanksgiving.

Not yet laying out but soon…

Me + Beach= Heaven. Tell me, how to get from this to focus??

I am quite a few pounds heavier and not as energetic as I would like. Sure, the new year time for resolutions is only like a month away, so I could wait. But why? Why not now? Now is always the best time for change.

But I have to admit it is hard. Once again, I know what I need to do. I am just not doing it. Yet.

There are a myriad of reasons. (Or should I say excuses?)

It is cold and dark here in the Northeast. By 4:30 pm it is dark out. You drive home with the headlights on after a long day of work. You just want to curl up on your couch and rest and rejuvenate for the next day.

Who wants to go for a run? Make a healthy meal? Do laundry? Clean? Organize? Declutter?

No one. That’s who.

Yet you must. Malaise is not an option. Yes, rest is.

But laying out, watching TV, reading the internet and social media don’t count as rest. That’s just wasting or passing time, depending on your definition.

So how? How do you do it? It’s just as hard for me so I am figuring it out day by day.

Steps to Getting Back on Track After Losing Your Focus

Step One: Keep it simple

Focus on small things that bring rhythm back to your life. Simple things like what you eat, clean surroundings, getting up and moving.

Step Two: Remove Distractions

The usual suspects will keep you unfocused and zoned out. TV, social media, the internet, politics, football- name your vice and remove it.

Step Three: Get Started

Do something, anything. One small piece of any goal you have. Walk a block if you want to exercise more. Write one page if you want to write a book. Clean one drawer if you want to declutter. You get the point. Small daily steps like these lead to big results over time.

As you  consistently do this, your efforts will snowball into more and more results leading to more energy, motivation and action.
